PRiSMa at the ECREA Political Communication Section Interim Conference 2025

This week, three members of our research group participated in the ECREA Political Communication Section Interim Conference, hosted in Innsbruck, Austria. Our researchers contributed with presentations on political representation and news consumption on social media.

On Thursday, 4 September, Márton Bene presented his paper “Constructing Representation: A Comparative Analysis of Political Actors’ Claims on Facebook During European and National Election Campaigns.” The presentation was based on joint work with our partners from the DigiWorld project. In addition to his own presentation, he also chaired a panel on Political Polarization.

The following day, Virág Bagi showcased her research on the psychological and social factors behind political engagement on social media. Her presentation, “Blushing to Comment? Introversion, Conflict Avoidance, Social Interaction Anxiety, and their Impact on Social Media-based Local and National News Consumption and Political Engagement,” was co-authored with Márton Bene.

Also on Friday, Krisztina Burai presented her research titled “The Temporal Dynamics of News Engagement: Patterns of Avoidance on Social Media”. The presentation explored how patterns of news consumption and avoidance change over time in the digital media environment.
